Congress and the Agencies responsible for funding agricultural research need to hear from the scientists involved in this research in order to set priorities.  Please let your delegation to congress and government officials know that agriculture research programs are critical citizens in the US!

Tips on Communicating with Congress

Every Request for Applications contains a request for comments on the next year's RFA content.  Sending your comments to the program issuing the grant can impact the focus of the funding progroam.  All comments are read and this is a very direct way to make your voice heard.

National Academies Press issues reports and recommendations on national priorities for agricultural research.  They are a good source of information when sending comments and drafting proposals.

The Senate and House each have an Agriculture committee and an Agriculture approprations committee.  The first sets agricultural policy and the second allocates the limited funds available.  Members of these committees have a great deal of power over federally-funded research and are responsive to comments, especially those coming from their constituents.
