The Coalition on Funding Agricultural Research Missions (CoFARM) is a broadly based coalition united by a commitment to advance and sustain investment in our nation's fundamental and applied agricultural research. CoFARM was formed in 1990 because the benefits of food and agricultural research were undervalued. Since then, public investment in agricultural research has become stagnant and may be inadequate to meet the challenges of the next century.

CoFARM Member Societies represent more than 130,000 individuals from scientific and professional organizations. Our Officers and Steering Committee Members meet monthly to hear from speakers and discuss our legislative priorities and activities.

CoFARM has Two Primary Goals:

• Effectively educate policy makers about the value and importance of public investment in agricultural research, and
• Focus the USDA research budget on agricultural investments that will enhance the quality of life for Americans and increase U.S. competitiveness in expanding world markets.

CoFARM is the premier coalition of scientific and professional societies in agricultural and life sciences that:

• uses the best possible scientific information to inform policy makers of the value and benefits of agricultural research;
• educates its individual society members about opportunities for input to national science policy issues;
• provides a unified voice on broad scientific policy issues.
