On September 28-29, 2004 CoFARM, together with the Biological and Ecological Sciences Coalition, carried out a Fall Congressional Visits Day activity. The purpose of the Fall CVD was to to communicate directly with legislators and to deliver their core message about the importance of federally funded R&D. CoFARM member societies participating included Agronomy, Crop and Soil Science Societies; American Society of Animal Science; American Phytopathological Society; Institute of Food Technologists; Council on Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics; American Society for Nutritional Sciences; and Weed Science Society of America. CoFARM member scientists visited Congressional delegations representing New York, New Mexico, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Iowa, Mississippi, Texas, Kansas and Virginia.

Agency Briefings:
The more than 20 CoFARM-BESC scientists attending the two-day event were provided overviews of research programs at the National Science Foundation and the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service. In addition, the scientists heard from a House Science Committee staff member who gave her insights into the budget process and funding for science.
